Autumn has Arrived - Volume 3

Jamboree
Thanks to all the staff that came out to the Jamboree on Sunday. It was a pleasure to see so many of you and the children were excited to see their wonderful and dedicated teachers. Your time meant a lot to the students and the admin team.

Classroom Observations
The seasons and temperature have changed but the teaching and learning are still hot at Morris Brandon. As I visit classes, I see students engaged and excited about learning. Students are using academic vocabulary as they discuss the various topics they are learning. Students are also demonstrating academic ownership and mastery of the content. Keep up the good work.

I will be continuing with the TKES observations this week. If I have already conducted a walk-through observation, the next observation will be your 30 minute formative. As always, if there is a particular lesson or classroom event you would like me to see, please invite me. I really enjoy visiting your classes and working with the students.

Student Outreach and Resources (SOAR)
Tentatively mark your calendars for November 29, 2018. The Atlanta Police Department will be providing us with a program for our students called SOAR. SOAR is meant to familiarize students with the police and firefighters. Their goal is to introduce themselves to the community and form bonds from an early age. The mounted police, K-9 unit, motorcycle unit and a fire truck will all be here to motivate our students. If all goes as planned, we will adhere to the following schedule:

Kindergarten     11am – 12pm
1st Grade           12pm – 2pm
2nd Grade          1pm – 2pm

Shelter-In-Place and Evacuations
Please review the shelter-in-place and bus evacuation procedures below. These are the locations we will report to for drills and in the unlikely event of an actual emergency. A shelter-in-place drill involves staff and students reporting to the identified areas then kneeling against a wall with their heads covered. Talk with your students about what to do ahead of time. We will have a shelter-in-place drill soon.

If we ever have to evacuate the building, we will do so using the bus evacuation plan below. Please look for your name, assigned bus number and duty. Everyone has a role during an emergency so please let me know if you are not clear about what the responsibilities are for your assignment.
